Back in 2004 I saw icebergs for the first time ... Ever since I have spent a total of three years in the Arctic and the Antarctic as a guide and photographer.
What makes me return to the polar regions over and over again? Why do I feel at home in these barren and fragile lands shaped by the elements? What exactly touches me when encountering people and animals who master their lives in the «freezers» of our planet? And how come that harshness seems anything but monochrome to me? French polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot dealt with similar questions at the beginning of the 20th century and found an answer. But what exactly does it mean?
The Arctic as well as the Antarctic do not reveal their secrets easily. I am exploring on site, with words and in pictures – and glad to take you along, if you like.
